"Challenges for Governance, Tourism and Population in the Historic Centre of Porto"
On 30 March, in the context of National Historic Centres Day, the talk, "Challenges for Governance, Tourism and Population in the Historic Centre of Porto" will be held in the Casa do Infante at 15:00, with the participation of Dr. Ricardo Valente (Councillor for the Economy, Tourism and Trade and Management of Community Funds), the architect, Rui Loza (former director of Porto Vivo, SRU), Dr. Sónia Alves (Researcher, ICS-ULisboa), moderated by the architect, Paulo Valença (Director of Planning and Operational Management of Porto Vivo, SRU). The talk will occur within the framework of the project, AtlaS.WH - Heritage in the Atlantic Area: Sustainability of the Urban World Heritage Sites, co-financed by the INTERREG Atlantic Area programme.

The project’s main aim is to implement new Management and Sustainability Plans for each of the listed World Heritage sites - Bordeaux (France); Edinburgh (United Kingdom); Florence (Italy); Porto (Portugal) and Santiago de Compostela (Spain). For this purpose, an initial diagnostic survey was drawn up, overseen by the Consortium of Santiago de Compostela, in order to identify the state of the art and three common challenges facing the five world heritage sites. The identified challenges - Governance, Tourism and Population - are transversal to the AtlaS.WH partnership, but are manifested in a distinct manner in each site.

In this context and during the talk, "Challenges for Governance, Tourism and Population in the Historic Centre of Porto", each participant will share his or her vision about how these challenges are reflected in the World Heritage Site of the Historic Centre of Porto.
