Now available – a new methodology for the development of Management Plans
The Methodology for the development of Management Plans for Urban World Heritage Sites, developed by the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto and Porto Vivo, SRU, was presented during the public session of the 4th International Meeting in Santiago de Compostela on 28th November 2019.

Porto was responsible for this study, whose objectives were to create a structure that would allow the AtlaS.WH partnership to address the common challenges identified in the “Diagnosis”, and to include the best practices of the “Thematic Study on Common Challenges” in an uniform way, both at a strategic and operational levels. This methodology presents a proposal for designing Management and Sustainability Plans for historic urban sites addressing several strategic fields such as Tangible Cultural Heritage; Planning and Legislative Instruments; Population and Housing; Tourism Culture and Economy; and Community Engagement and Capacity Building. At the same time, the methodology proposes strategic objectives, measures, guidelines for action and examples of monitoring indicators.

It is now the time for each city involved in the partnership to create its own Management and Sustainability Plan in order to have an up-to-date mechanism to properly address the management of these world heritage sites.
