Urban Rehabilitation Week is back - with a focus on built to rent and large-scale mobilising projects
The 9th Urban Rehabilitation Week, that runs from Tuesday to Thursday, 23-25 November, includes conferences, workshops and seminars. The event, which returns to an in-person format, is organised by Vida Económica, with support from Porto City Council. The main themes to be addressed include multi-family houses for rent ("built to rent") and projects such as the Campanhã Intermodal Terminal or the Matadouro project. It also marks the first time the event is held in the Alfândega do Porto Congress Centre.
The 2021 edition will discuss "the structuring themes of urban rehabilitation and renewal, taking a special look at the situation in the city of Porto". The event includes more than 100 guest speakers, including representatives of the main associations from the real estate and construction sector, professional associations and academic world.
Topics to be addressed include multi-family houses for rent ("built to rent"), affordable housing, senior living and the dynamics of the office market in Porto. There will be dedicated panels on the importance of “large-scale mobilising projects”, such as the Campanhã Intermodal Terminal or the Matadouro project, that “are leveraging transformation of the city's eastern zone”.
Porto Urban Rehabilitation Week will focus on the challenges of sustainability, industrialisation, construction costs, and public support for decarbonisation and the importance of technology.
On its way towards its tenth edition, the event positions itself as “the most important national event in activation of the urban regeneration and renewal movement in Portugal”. It is available for free registration, and is aimed at professionals and individuals.
Last year, the Urban Rehabilitation Week began with the debate “Economy, financing and the city – What is the future?”, which discussed the EU’s recovery plan for Europe, in the wake of the pandemic, and strategies to be adopted by cities to face the future with greater confidence.
